What is EcoLeague?

EcoLeague is a youth empowerment program that aims to inspire Canadians to save the planet by engaging in community and school-based environmental action projects.

By engaging in experiential learning, students can focus on environmental issues that directly impact them.  EcoLeague also helps teachers meet curriculum expectations through highly engaging and environmentally-focused learning activities.

How do I get involved with EcoLeague?

Step 1: Talk to your teacher about registering for an EcoLeague Youth Forum near you.

Your teacher must register your Action Team so that you can participate in the EcoLeague program. Talk to your teacher or principal and show them this site so that you don’t miss out on the ACTION!

Step 2: Attend our Youth Forum - learn about local environmental issues that affect YOU and what YOU can do about it!

EcoLeague starts with a one-day Youth Forum for Gr. 6-8 schools.  It brings together students, teachers, parents, community leaders and volunteers to increase awareness of local environmental issues and encourage you to take action!

Step 3: Work with your Action Team to make a difference!

After the Forum, work with your Action Team to share what you’ve learned with others at school and then decide on your Action Project. You can create your own amazing project or your teacher can register to have EcoLeague reps come to your school and help you carry out one of our Action Projects.

How does EcoLeague work?  What are the different parts?

The EcoLeague consists of several different parts – Pre-Forum Teacher Workshops, Youth Forums and Teacher Workshops, Action Projects and the Celebration.

1. Pre-Forum Teacher Workshop

    Who should attend?
Elementary school teachers, workshop facilitators and volunteers.

    Why?
To help prepare students for the Forum and to facilitate a successful Action Project         after the forum.  Participants will receive an Action Kit and participate in activities         designed to help students through the steps to creating a successful Action Project.

2. Youth Forum and Teacher Workshop

    Who should attend?
School Action Teams, which consist of up to 2 staff members (teachers, caretakers,         educational assistants, administrators) or parents and 5 students (grades 6 – 8),         workshop facilitators and community volunteers.

    Why?
EcoLeague provides hands on skill-building workshops on environmental issues that     impact your community.  Share tools and success stories about what works and             develop Action Projects with the support of local partners.

3. Action Project

    Who should attend?
Students, teachers, caretakers, administrators, parents, and community volunteers.

    Why?
Learn how to take action and do something at your school to make a difference!

4. Celebration

    Who should attend?
    Everyone: teachers, students, parents, volunteers…etc.

    Why?
To celebrate all your hard work and efforts.

What Action Project can I choose?

Talk to your teacher, Action Team and other students at your school to decide on what excites and interests your school the most.

You may already have a great idea and wish to take on your own Action Project - if you do, contact us and we may be able to help.  Also, you can choose any of the Action Projects described on our site.  Select a project that makes sense for your school! If you have a lot of green space that could use some trees, try the Greening with Native Plants Project. If you live near a body of water, try the Quest for Clean Shorelines!  If you know what you want to do, be sure to get your class and teacher on board so you can register for the project.
